This video shows how ERS SAR [synthetic aperture radar] data can be used to monitor movements of volcanoes (Mt Etna) from space through a new technique called interferometry. Since changes in surface deformation are indicators of different stages of volcanic activity, precise monitoring of a volcano’s surface deformation might provide early warnings of future eruptions.
